Description
The MAD spinner cowl is the best quality revolving chimney cowl on the market. Designed to eradicate downdraught, while the rotating action assists ventilation, this cowl is the go-to product to increase upward draw within the chimney. It is also commonly used for ventilation purposes on extraction flues at landfill sites.
Tested and Complies with BSEN 16475-7:2016
We know how many stresses are placed on a spinning cowl, especially when wind speeds are at increased levels. Therefore we like to ensure that customers are aware that M.A.D spinner cowl is made from thick aluminium cast base with a stainless steel fin set and shaft assembly. Using lightweight materials is not an option when producing a cowl that will be placed under such stress when in use.
The MAD spinner cowl benefits from the following:
- Fits a range of flue sizes up to 275mm outside diameter
- Minimum 4m flue height required due to flue gas temp.
- Withstands flue temperatures up to 200ºC
- Backed up by the MAD cowl money-back guarantee
- Sold fully assembled and ready to fit
- Sold as standard with a strap fixing
- Has a test certificate to BSEN 1856-1: 2003
- Highly effective in preventing downdraught and increasing ventilation
- Height 320mm – Width 300mm
- Withstands wind speeds up to 65mph
- Suitable for use with seasoned wood, normal coal, gas
It is our opinion that no spinning/revolving cowl is suitable for use with peat or smokeless fuel without increased levels of annual maintenance. Mentioned within our product bulletin above gives customers an insight into the vast knowledge we possess in the field of metal engineering. Be assured we know the limits of the materials used within this product type; It is our expressed opinion that no spinning/rotating cowl can cope with such acidity levels on a prolonged basis, without failing. If you desire to use the cowl with smokeless fuel, all we ask is to be prepared to carry out maintenance at shorter intervals. That said, our cowls are made to the highest standards, and should a customer want to use a MAD Spinner cowl outside our warranted recommendations, then we have spares on hand, to ensure that they can be serviced and repaired more frequently.
When used with seasoned wood, coal or oil your spinning/revolving cowl will need to removed each year and cleaned. We feel that other brands that do not mention this are misleading customers into thinking that the model they offer will not need this maintenance. All cowls unless used with gas will inevitably suffer debris build-up, this debris will need to be removed to ensure the product keeps spinning.
For areas with consistently high wind speeds a M.A.D. static anti downdraught cowl will be more appropriate as spinners can deteriorate in consistently strong windy conditions. If you require more information then take a look at the benefits of fitting a chimney cowl.

Spinning Cowl
Arrived on time. Very easy to fit on the chimney pot. Was a little concerned that it would be noisy when it spins... but it is absolutely silent , even in strong winds.
